Localization. The municipality of Tamazunchale is located in the southeast part of the state, in the Zona Huasteca, the municipal head has the following ones coordinated: 98º48 ' of longitude west and 21º16 ' of north latitude, with a height 140 meters on the level of the sea. Their limits are: to the north, Matlapa and Tampacán; to the east, San Martín Chalchicuautla; to the south and the west, the state of Hidalgo. Its approximate distance to the capital of the state is of 372 kilometers.
Extension. The total surface of the municipality is of 349.58 km2 of agreement with the Integral System of Geographical Information and Statistic of the INEGI of the year 2000 and it represents 0.58% of the state territory.
Orography. In general, this municipality has settled in mountains and hills of the Oriental Sierra Madre and plains, with canyons guided in southeast address, northeast, toward the east, northeast and southeast, she/he becomes wide funds of valley, with ramifications that occupy a fringe of the territory.
Hydrography. The most important river in Tamazunchale is the river Moctezuma, also the river Amajac that comes from the state of Hidalgo and she/he unites to the Moctezuma; to the north the river Atlamaxatl is located that is formed in the municipality and that she/he goes in the same magnitude where later on she/he receives the river name Axtla.
Climate. In the north of the municipality the humid half warm climate prevails with abundant rain in summer, to the south the climate is half warm humid with rain the whole year. The annual half temperature is of 25.50ºC with an absolute maxim of 44ºC and a minimum one absolute of 11ºC. The annual pluvial precipitation is of 2,168.3 mm.
